Do You Grind Your Teeth?

Most people with the current work like stressful balance grind their teeth at night while they are asleep. Bruxism or grinding of teeth is very common among children and adults. This can lead to many dental problems depending on the intensity of grinding and the cause behind it. Many psychological, physical and physiological factors may cause you to grind your teeth. Various other factors that can cause bruxism are stress, brain injury, jaw misalignment and side effects of few medications.

Symptoms of teeth grinding

Daytime teeth grinding is not really noticeable but if it is done at nighttime then it can be pinpointed easily. Few symptoms are listed below:

  1. Injured gums
  2. Injured teeth
  3. Complaint of headache
  4. Clenching of jaw muscles
  5. Sensitivity of tooth to hot and cold foods
  6. Painful muscles of the jaw

Teeth damage by bruxism

Bruxism is considered as grinding of upper jaw with the lower jaw. There are times that people are completely unaware of it but the dentist can look at the condition of the teeth and tell.

Treatment of bruxism

Your dentist may provide an interventional strategy while examining and monitoring your teeth. If the cause behind the grinding of teeth is jaw misalignment then it is corrected. One option for treatment is altering the biting surface of the teeth with crowns. Also, relaxation classes are recommended to reduce stress level.

If you have questions or concerns about bruxism or grinding teeth, please contact your paediatric dentist at Dr. Khullar’s Dental Clinic.
